#mybi Flight Fund receipeint Tom comes 4th in Under 18s British Surf Championship
Catching a wave with Tom...
As part of the Blue Islands #mybi Flight Fund, we recently flew Guernsey surfer Tom Hook (13) to Jersey to participate in the British Championships at St Ouen’s Bay where, as there were no junior categories, Tom was competing against the best under Under 18 surfers in Britain. Tom took it all in his stride, winning his first heat and coming 2nd in the semi-finals, therefore advancing to the final on the Sunday and eventually placing 4th in the Under 18s British Championships.
Reflecting on making it to the final and finishing 4th, Tom said
I felt very proud to represent the Channel Islands at this prestigious event and enjoyed the challenge of surfing against older and more experienced surfers. I was really happy to have made the final in the Under 18s.
Tom attends Elizabeth College in Guernsey and has been surfing since he was 5 years old. He has surfed in 11 different countries including Japan and the USA for the World Junior Surfing Championships. Tom spends much of the summer holidays in Hossegor, south west France, surfing high performance waves and also competes and trains regularly in Cornwall.
Tom plans to represent the Channel Islands again later in the year at the World Junior Surfing Championships, location yet to be confirmed. He will also be entering the Rip Curl Grom Search events in Newquay and Jersey in September.
