For true escapism, the discovery of hidden coves and the feeling of fresh, salty air sweeping off the coast, look no further than a walking holiday to Guernsey. From exploring rugged coastal cliff paths to meandering along sleepy, sun-dappled rural lanes lined with hedge-veg, the island offers treasure around every corner.
Measuring just 25 square miles, there is a whole host of walks available in Guernsey to cater for every taste. If you enjoy history, you can walk around castles older than the Tower of London and ancient burial sites dating back to the Neolithic period. Furthermore, the coastline bears the marks of the Occupation in World War II, with fortifications and a network of bunkers that are still standing today.
The island's unique geographical location means that it has always been a busy trading port, where smuggling and privateering were rife. One such bay where smugglers and pirates used to land is Fermain Bay; a beautiful and secluded pebble beach with crystal-clear water and uninterrupted views of the neighbouring islands. This beautiful bay feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of St Peter Port, and is well worth exploring on foot.
Loved and enjoyed by visitors and locals alike, Tasty Walks is a series of 18 self-guided walks which make the most of the very best the island has to offer - its stunning scenery and fabulous food. Routes are designed by walkers of all ages and abilities and are graded by their difficulty, so you can choose the right adventure for you.
